Norfolk Island Internet - Proxy Configuration

Caching Proxy Servers have been installed at the Norfolk Telecom ISP to improve web-browsing performance.

The way a Caching Proxy Server works is that your browser (Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, etc) checks with the proxy to see whether it has a recent copy of the information you have requested and if the Proxy has the information it is passed directly to your browser. This means that you are getting the information locally rather than downloading it all the way from the USA, or India, or Uzbekistan or wherever.

If the Proxy doesn't have the information then it will download it and simultaneously save the information as well as passing it directly on to you with no loss of performance. However, the next time that you or anyone else
asks for the same information, it will have it locally & will improve the performance.

Inherently, the more people that use the Proxy Server, the better it will be for everybody.

ALL users are therefore asked to reconfigure their internet browsers as per the instructions below. If you are unsure or don't feel comfortable doing this without support, feel free to contact the EDP department at Admin (22001) & request phone support whilst you do this.

Exclusions

Customers who dial into a different ISP to browse the internet SHOULD NOT modify their settings.
