16 March 2009 More International SMS destinations, Internet Bandwidth Increases and a new gaming operator
Over the last few weeks more International SMS destinations have been added and many more on the way. It's a slow process and we are still waiting for Optus & Vodafone Australia
to allow return SMS services. Check out the SMS information table link above to see current destinations.
Roaming is still moving ahead but it's a complex process. Norfolk Telecom is currently focussing on the first connection as a training service and our Roaming Partner has
offered to provide a lot of assistance with our setup. Once this is complete we will be targetting the Australian and New Zealand carriers in order to maximise our service offering
for those travelling to Norfolk.
Internet bandwidth has been upped recently and we are rolling out changes to customer services that will see the base service bandwidth increased from a 512K/256K service up to a
1024K/512K service. Those on the 90 or 150 plans will enjoy 1.5M/512K service. Rollout should be complette by the end of this week.
Last, but certainly not least, Typhoon Pools went online last week, a new Gaming service provider that has its backend systems based here on Norfolk Island. A lot of work put in by
the Norfolk Telecom team has seen them start up on time with all systems ready. Hopefully their operation will be a success.

December 2008 International SMS services and International Roaming high on the agenda
for Norfolk Telecom
International SMS is well under way with both way SMS operational to Telstra in Australia, Telecom New
Zealand, NZ Comms, Fiji Telecom plus a few others. The SMS information
table link above shows the carriers and their number ranges so you can
see if you can contact your friends and family via SMS.
The annual Christmas and New Year lockdowns prevent any serious inter carrier work from taking place at this time
but Norfolk Telecom will be working on International Roaming early in the new year. It is a major undertaking for any new
Mobile operator and is likely to have a slow start but we expect to have most of the Australian and New Zealand Mobile carriers
interconnected by June 2009.
Also in the pipeline is the ability to check your Voicemail from almost any telephone, anywhere in the world, which will be
available after a system software update in early January. For security reasons you will need to change your Voicemail PIN code to
access this but it's easy to do. Just call the voicemail system from your mobile whilst on Norfolk Island (0116) and follow the
voice prompts.
Finally, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the staff at Norfolk Telecom.
New Year to you all.
